Sitos Group and CarbonPilot Partner to Deliver Almond-Based Biochar CDR
Partnership Leverages Carbon Management Platform to Maximize Value from Agricultural By-Products
May 5, 2025

New York, NY, May 5, 2025 — Sitos Group, a California-based biochar producer dedicated to supporting regenerative agriculture, today announced a partnership with CarbonPilot to develop, manage, and monetize carbon removal credits from Sitos Group's upcoming $9 million biochar manufacturing facility in Delano, California. CarbonPilot's comprehensive carbon management platform will handle the entire project lifecycle, from development and implementation to verification and monetization, for Sitos Group's facility being developed with Treehouse California Almonds.
The Delano facility—the first commercial-scale slow pyrolysis system connected to agriculture on the West Coast—will transform almond shells into approximately 8,000 tons of biochar annually, sequestering an estimated 20,000 tons of CO₂ equivalent per year. CarbonPilot's platform will enable seamless project management and flexible monetization strategies using Isometric's carbon credit registry.
This partnership will unify the entire almond value chain—creating a bridge between growers, processors, and consumer brands. For the first time, farmers can participate directly in carbon markets, while downstream buyers gain access to verified scope 3 emission reductions from their own suppliers. This approach transforms abstract carbon farming concepts into concrete financial benefits for agricultural producers, generating new revenue streams while strengthening food system resilience.
Beyond environmental impact, this partnership enables Sitos Group to develop a robust biochar business with flexible monetization options. The company can strategically generate insets within the almond industry or market premium carbon credits through the voluntary carbon market, adapting to evolving market conditions to maximize both financial returns and climate benefits.
"Working with CarbonPilot helps us maximize both environmental impact and financial return," said Mayo Ryan, co-founder and CEO of Sitos Group. "Their carbon management platform reduces project development time and cost while giving us flexibility in how we monetize our carbon removal credits from offsets or insets. This approach helps build resilience in agricultural supply chains and creates valuable new revenue streams for the growers applying biochar."
